When starting a new project or a new company, I generally like to understand who the user is, what user groups there are and the tasks they usually do. At the start of a new feature, I have also learnt that it's important to understand what the aims and goals of the feature are and what user problem it should solve, so that we can be sure the feature is the correct one to be building.

Following this, I research the feature itself and look at how competitors are doing it before starting the conception and design process. During my process, I employ user centric methods to understand the user and to look at the product/feature from their perspective and needs. Depending on the stage and requirements, I may carry out interviews, surveys, user journeys, user flows or user testing.

 

I produce wireframes and prototypes and work in an iterative approach - gathering internal and external feedback on the designs and updating/improving them as necessary. My understanding of usability heuristics and dialogue principles help me to design understandable interactions. I am able to create visually balanced designs and have worked with design systems to ensure consistency across a platform.
